What you give does make a difference!
In 1995 work began on reclaiming the beautiful detailed ceiling in the drawing room here at Craigdarroch Castle. Through membership dues, monies generated from entrance fees, museum store sales and our donation boxes we were able to raise the money needed to complete this project. Over 12 summers a fine art restoration expert painstakingly removed 5 layers of white paint to reveal the full extent of the original detail.
Our most recent endeavor, the grounds landscape project, is now complete and was funded in the same manner as the ceiling. It will add to the length of a tour and provides those unable to climb the 87 stairs inside an opportunity to experience the Castle and its history from outside - something that was not easy to do before with the lack of paths. One of the highlights includes the reconstruction of the sandstone gates, located on the boulevard of Joan Crescent at Fort St. The placement of the gates provides visitors and residents with the experience of living on an estate the size of the Dunsmuir's.
The Society will also benefit financially from the grounds project. The opportunity to offer new programs and private rentals outside will broaden the means to generate money and help offset the instability in tourism we’ve been experiencing over the last few years.
As a member of the Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society your dues will aid in the upkeep of this elegant home that, among other things, boasts one of the finest collections of residential stained glass in North America. Your support and participation would be greatly appreciated, as Craigdarroch Castle maintains its place as vital and relevant part of the Victoria Community.
